Read-a-thon!

On Friday, Year One participated in Bethany's awesome
Read-a-thon!  We got to visit each of the Year One
classrooms, listen to some great stories and choose
different activities to do.

Some of the things we were able to choose were:

Making bug and spider bookmarks
Sequencing the story using a storyboard
Using the iPads to listen to the stories and use the app StoryKit to write and draw our own bug story
Using collage materials to create a habitat for our bugs
Following written instructions to draw our own ladybugs

Look how much fun we had!!

Remember to bring in your Read-a-thon
sponsorship cards and money for your chance
to win some great raffle prizes!

Also, if you want a chance to win Sassoon or
Sassoon's babies, remember to buy some
raffle tickets - 50c each or 3 for $1.

Volume and capacity - dumping or packing? That is the question...

1B were looking at the concepts of volume and capacity. We were measuring the volume and capacity of different objects with cubes, water, dice and rice. 1B need to know though - is dumping or packing the best way to measure the volume and capacity of an object?

We think packing is the best way because you won't leave gaps or have any overflow, therefore it is a true measurement.

Counting Collections

In Maths, we have been practising counting collections of objects in efficient ways.
In Kindy we used to count by ones, but now we can count by twos, fives and tens!

Can you count by twos?
Is there a more efficient way to count the pop sticks?

Can you count by tens?
How quickly can you count these counters?

What is the quickest way to count these counters?
By tens?  Or is there another way?

How could you count these blocks efficiently?
Are there five in each group?
